Body Language

Dear All,

As I learnt, one of the presentation skills that helps in making successful presentation is the good use of body language.

So could you please add some thing regarding this subject.

My Regards,

Najla

Re: Body Language

Hi Najla,

I think so too, that body language add a good deal to your presentation as a whole.

For example, the way you stand up there, in front of everyone, is important.

I think it helps me to find my own stance, one that I'm most comfortable with and I think best conveys me professionally.  I don't slouch over or stand with one hand in my pocket all the time.  I try to be as relaxed as possible without being too casual.  I try not to pace too much and try to make eye contact with my audience as appropriate.

All of this I find quite helpful during presentation.

Any other thoughts?

Re: Body Language

Thanks Yassmine.  Do you mind sharing with us some of that knowledge?  I think everyone here can all learn from good examples of what to do, besides what to say, during a presentation.

I personally think the key is to be as comfortable as you can, while being professional all the same.  So I try not to overwork myself with what I'll do in front of everybody before I go up there, otherwise I'll be a nervous wreck.

What about everyone else?  What kind of body language you've found comfortable with when public speaking?  What have you found to work for you?

Re: Body Language

Very true about holding a pen or pointer to help steady your nerves!  For me, though it isn't recommended by professionals, memo cards help to remind me of the main points to cover during presentation.

And I think when delivering a presentation in a language you're not too familiar with, exaggerated body language, as in hand motions and gestures, are very much welcomed by audience.  Because then they get the feeling that you're truly "passionate" about communicating with them!
